Furniture Assembly in Springfield, IL

Most of the furniture that arrives in Springfield homes now comes in a flat box, whether it was ordered online or carried home from the stores along Wabash Avenue and Dirksen Parkway. That's convenient right up until you open the box and find two hundred parts, a bag of cam locks and directions with no words. Assembly takes longer than anyone expects, especially for beds, wardrobes, office desks and anything with drawers or doors that need to line up. It's also a common task for families settling into a new house in Chatham, for state workers moving into an apartment near the Capitol, for parents setting up a nursery and for anyone whose weekend has better uses than chasing a missing dowel.

We assemble furniture carefully and in the right order, using the correct tools rather than overdriving fasteners into particleboard that strips easily. We check that pieces are square before tightening, adjust drawers and doors so they glide and close evenly, and anchor tall dressers and bookcases to the wall with anti-tip hardware to protect kids. We can move pieces into the right room, level them on uneven floors and break down and haul off the cardboard. If you have several items, from a bed frame and dresser to a desk and shelving, we'll plan the visit so everything gets built in one trip.

What this covers

  • Beds, headboards, bunk beds and daybeds
  • Dressers, nightstands and wardrobes
  • Desks, office chairs and filing cabinets
  • Bookcases, media consoles and storage units
  • Cribs, changing tables and nursery furniture
  • Patio furniture, grills and outdoor storage
  • Anti-tip anchoring for tall pieces
  • Leveling, adjusting doors and drawers and box removal
A note from around here: Move-ins drive a lot of this work, from new construction in Chatham and Sherman to apartments and rentals near downtown and the medical district, where new residents often need a whole houseful of furniture built in a single day.

How a furniture assembly visit usually goes

Check the Parts

We unpack, sort and count parts against the instructions so missing pieces turn up at the start.

Build in Order

We follow the sequence, square the frame before final tightening and avoid stripping particleboard.

Adjust and Anchor

We level the piece, adjust doors and drawers, and anchor tall furniture to the wall.

Place and Clean Up

We move the piece into position, break down boxes and take away the packaging if you'd like.

In older Springfield homes, especially in Enos Park, Vinegar Hill and the bungalow blocks near Lincoln Park, furniture assembly often comes with a challenge most instructions ignore: narrow stairways and doors. A big dresser or bed may need to be built in the room where it will live, and floors that have settled over a century can make tall pieces lean forward. We plan the build around the space, shim and level carefully, and anchor everything so it stays put. In newer homes, the concern is more often drywall that won't hold an anchor on its own, so we take the time to find studs.

What shapes the price in Springfield

Assembly cost depends on how many pieces you have and how complicated each one is. A simple bookshelf or nightstand goes quickly. Beds with storage drawers, large wardrobes, sectionals, office desks with hutches and outdoor play sets can take hours. Missing or damaged parts slow things down, and moving heavy pieces up narrow stairs in older homes adds effort. Anchoring furniture, leveling on uneven floors and hauling away boxes are small additions that make a big difference. Grouping several items into one visit is the most cost-effective approach.

Neighbors often ask

Can you assemble furniture I bought online?

Yes. That's most of what we build. Have the boxes inside, and if possible in or near the room where the furniture will go. We'll check the parts against the inventory before we start so missing hardware shows up right away, not halfway through the job, and we bring our own tools so you don't have to hunt for an Allen key.

Will you anchor a dresser or bookcase to the wall?

Yes, and we recommend it for any tall or top-heavy piece, especially in homes with kids or pets. We use the anti-tip kit included with the furniture or a sturdier one, anchoring into a stud whenever possible. In plaster walls we drill carefully and use anchors designed for plaster, so the strap holds without cracking the wall.

Do you build outdoor play sets and sheds?

We assemble many kit play sets, pergolas, storage sheds and patio pieces. Play sets and sheds need level ground and careful bracing, so we check the site, square and level the base and anchor it as the manufacturer recommends. Springfield thunderstorms can bring strong gusts, so we don't skip the ground anchors. For very large kits, we'll schedule enough time to finish without rushing.

Can you take apart furniture for a move?

Yes. We can disassemble beds, desks and other pieces, bag and label the hardware, and reassemble them at your new place if it's within our area. It's a good way to make sure nothing gets lost or damaged in the shuffle of a Springfield move.

What if a piece arrives damaged?

We'll stop and show you the damage so you can contact the seller with photos. Some issues, like a scuffed back panel or a small chip on a hidden edge, we can work around. If a structural part is cracked or a critical part is missing, we'll wait for the replacement rather than forcing the piece together.
